Poster and Oral Presentation Abstract Submission Instructions
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
The 5TH ANNUAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR VETERAN & MILITARY HEALTH SYMPOSIUM: Elevating Veteran Voices scheduled for September 3-5, 2025, with a post-symposium workshop on September 6th, is accepting abstracts on innovative practices, research, and clinical topics, as well as community-based programs and partnerships, that improve the health and welfare of Veterans, Servicemembers, and their families.
This will be an in-person program with the option of virtual attendance. The in-person venue will be on the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado, in Aurora, Colorado.
The audience for this symposium includes interprofessional healthcare providers, researchers, educators, veterans service organizations, Veterans, Servicemembers and their families and caregivers.
Symposium Goal:
To offer an exchange of knowledge and sharing of experiences that will enable attendees to improve the care of Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, and communities while promoting healing and well-being of the mind, body, and soul of the individual.
Abstracts are requested that address the symposium goal and include one of the following:
- Clinical applications
- Innovative models of care (inside and outside of healthcare systems)
- Completed research
- Provider education on care of Servicemembers and Veterans
- Evidence-based practice / quality improvement projects
- The development and/or enhancement of healthcare - community partnerships
All abstracts must be submitted by no later than May 1, 2025 at 5 pm MST using the form below.
Abstracts will undergo peer review for content and relevance to the overarching goal of the symposium and foci. You will be notified if your abstract has been accepted for either a podium or poster presentation by May 30, 2025.
Abstracts should address one or a combination of the following foci:
Service-related Health Concerns
- Suicidality
- Military sexual assault
- Mental Health challenges during deployment, separation from service, reintegration
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Physical Disability
Trauma Informed Care
- Philosophies / Programmatic Integration
- Modalities (EMDR, CBT, CPT, PE, etc.)
- Precision medicine approaches
- Acute vs. chronic trajectories in care
Advocacy
- Veteran Service Organization work
- Advocacy for military personnel and their families
- Policy and legislation
- Ethics
Environment
- Diverse Environments – space, disaster regions, austere conditions, etc.
- Military history assessments
- Homelessness and community programs
- Social determinants of health for Veterans/Military Servicemembers/their families
- Environmental and toxic exposures
- Military occupational exposures; deployment and non-deployment- related (pre- and post-9/11)
- Military base / housing contamination (water, fire suppression/foam)
- Infertility/Intergenerational effect
Diverse Populations
- Veteran aging and end-of-life care
- Women Veteran health (including, but not limited to reproductive health)
- Care of gender expansive or LGBTQ+ Servicemembers and Veterans
Education
- Provider education on the care of Veterans and Servicemembers
- Veteran education to promote acquisition of new skills
- Military/Veteran peer support
- Processes of screening, referral, care coordination and intervention
Guidelines & Information
- Abstracts should be no more than 500 words in length
- Each abstract must include the following:
- Contact Author Name / Credentials
- Author’s Professional Title / Position
- Institution / Organization
- Email address
- Phone
- Abstract category. Choose from the foci list above.
- Abstract (Maximum 500 words) must include each of the following sections:
- Abstract/Presentation title (does not count against word count)
- Authors and their credentials (does not count against word count)
- Background/Needs assessment (why is it important for the audience to hear this information?)
- Methods or description of the program/activity
- Results/outcomes
- Implications (How can the findings be built upon in a community partnership?)
- Please provide one or two learning objectives that address the knowledge or skills that you would like the learner to take away.
- Notification of abstract acceptance will be sent by May 30, 2025
- Confirmation of acceptance by primary author is required by June 6, 2025
- Presenter/authors and co-presenters/co-authors for both podium and poster sessions, will be required to complete a Disclosure Form.
- Electronic file of presentation (PowerPoint not PDF format) is required by August 4th, 2025 for accreditation purposes.
- All abstracts will be submitted online only.
Podium session (if accepted):
- Podium presentations will be 15 minutes in length.
- Presenting authors must attend entire day of their presentation but will be given a free registration for both days.
Poster session (if accepted):
- Template for poster will be provided to presenters.
- Presenters will be required to print their poster sized 3 ft. x 5 ft. Further instructions will be provided in the acceptance letter.
- Primary Presenter must attend entire day of their poster presentation but will be given a free registration for both days.
- Poster abstracts accepted and confirmed by June 6, 2025 will have author(s) name(s) and poster title included in advance promotional materials.
